Delete your account

You can delete your VesselFile account and everything in it yourself, at any time, without asking us. It takes about thirty seconds and it does not go through a queue.

Take your records with you first. Deleting is permanent and we cannot restore an account afterwards — not the next day, not with a support ticket. If your logbook, receipts or manuals are worth keeping, use Download my data before you delete. It gives you a ZIP containing every record and every file you have uploaded.

From the mobile app

  1. Open VesselFile and go to Profile.
  2. Optional, and recommended: Your data → Download my data.
  3. Scroll to Delete account.
  4. Type DELETE to confirm, then tap Delete forever.

From a web browser

You do not need the app installed. Sign in on the web and the same controls are there, which is the route to use if you have already removed VesselFile from your phone.

Sign in and go to Profile

Then Download my data if you want a copy, and Delete account to delete.

If you cannot sign in

Email [email protected] from the address on your account, with the words “delete my account” in the message. We verify that the request came from the account holder and then delete the account within 30 days, usually the same day. If you write from a different address we will ask you to confirm from the one on file — that check is there to stop someone else deleting your records.

What gets deleted

Deleting your account removes your profile and all of the content attached to it from our live database immediately:

What we keep, and why

A small amount of data outlives the account, in every case because the law requires it or because deleting it would harm you. This mirrors the retention table in our Privacy Policy.

WhatHow long, and why
Encrypted backups containing deleted records Purged on our backup-retention cycle, currently 30 days. Backups are not readable in normal operation and are never used to restore a deleted account.
Transaction and invoice records As required by tax and accounting law, typically seven years. We cannot delete a record of a sale on request.
Your email address on our suppression list, if you unsubscribed Kept indefinitely, precisely so that we never email you again. Deleting it would undo your unsubscribe.
A record that an account was deleted, and when Kept without your name or email attached. We keep it to show that deletion requests are honoured.
Crash logs and diagnostic data Up to 90 days.

Things deleting does not do

It does not cancel a subscription bought through an app store. If you subscribed on iPhone or Android, Apple and Google hold the subscription, not us, and only they can cancel it. Cancel it in App Store → Subscriptions or Google Play → Payments and subscriptions before you delete your account, or it will keep renewing against a VesselFile account that no longer exists. A subscription bought on our website is cancelled for you when the account goes.

It does not remove records from a boat someone else owns. If you were given editor access to another person’s vessel, the entries you added belong to that vessel’s history and stay with it. Your access ends and your name is detached.

It does not delete a vessel you transferred away. Once you hand a boat to a new owner, its records are theirs.
